LAVETA x SAMUEL PÁRRAGA

The project brings together two approaches to craftsmanship that share a common appreciation for raw materials, time and individuality. 
Samuel Párraga is an internationally recognised young winemaker and viticulturist from Málaga, born in Colmenar, who has been developing his own project since 2018 and has established himself as one of the innovative voices in Andalusia’s natural wine scene. 
His approach follows a minimal-intervention philosophy, with no added sulphites or filtration.

What happens when wood that has witnessed the evolution of a wine for decades begins a new life as a design piece? This is the idea behind the collaboration between Laveta and Samuel Párraga: a pair of handcrafted sunglasses made from French oak wood sourced from the staves of a barrel in which one of his wines aged for decades. The defining feature of this collaboration lies in the origin of its material. The wood, directly connected to the history of the wine and its ageing process, now takes on a new purpose away from the winery, while retaining its identity.

The grain, tones and texture of the wood bring character to a frame with strong geometric lines and a bold silhouette. Brass-coloured metal details, inspired by the rivets used in wine barrels strengthen its visual connection to the material’s origins. The manufacturing process preserves this connection with wine through the finishing stages too. Samuel Párraga’s wines are incorporated into the mixture of products used to treat the wood, leaving the finished glasses with a subtle wine aroma that reinforces their connection to their origins. The design is completed with ZEISS Signature lenses, bringing optical quality and precision to the finished piece.

The glasses will be available through the Laveta Eyewear website (here) and a selected range of establishments connected to Samuel Párraga’s world. 
These will include specialist wine shops and restaurants that champion his natural wines and feature them on their wine lists. These venues will bring the piece to an audience that shares an interest in craftsmanship, independent design and wine culture. Through this collaboration, Laveta and Samuel Párraga offer a new way to tell the story of a barrel: a story that began with wine and now continues in a pair of designer sunglasses.
